Director of Materials Management

Job Summary:

Alcom LLC, a leader in manufacturing high-quality aluminum trailers, is seeking a Director of Materials Management who is responsible for leading and overseeing all aspects of materials management across the group, including inventory control, receiving, warehousing, and distribution. This role ensures the availability of necessary materials to support production and operational needs while optimizing cost, quality, and service levels.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement strategies for efficient inventory control and materials distribution. Including but not limited to, development of 6S program for inventory layout, utilization of warehousing space and sequencing format of cycle counting.
  • Management cycle counting, year-end inventory process, develop planning, teams, and execution in collaboration with 3rd party auditors/finance teams.
  • Lead and develop materials management staff to ensure high performance and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Ensure inventory levels are maintained to support production without excess or obsolescence.
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to assess performance and drive continuous improvement. (Receiving inspection/dock to stock timing/inventory accuracy)
  • Collaborate with production, engineering, finance, and other departments to align materials availability with operational needs.
  • Oversee the implementation of ERP or MRP systems and processes related to materials planning and inventory control.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and company standards in all materials handling and storage processes. Annual equipment certifications and training of material handling teams.
  • Manage relationships with key suppliers and logistics providers to ensure reliability and cost-effectiveness.
  • Develop budgets and forecasts for materials management functions and control departmental costs.
  • Evaluate material handling equipment needs and develop a proposal for best practices for equipment across the enterprise.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, Logistics, or related field. Proven experience will be considered in place of a degree.
  • 8+ years of experience in materials management or supply chain roles, including at least 3 years in a leadership capacity.
  • Strong knowledge of procurement practices, inventory management, and supply chain logistics.
  • Experience with ERP systems, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Power BI. (Genuis ERP experience is a plus)
  • Excellent leadership, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze data and make informed, strategic decisions.
  • APICS, CPIM, or CPM certification is a plus.

Work Environment:

  • Office and production floor environment at 4 manufacturing sites (Maine, Montana, South Dakota, Florida); travel to manufacturing and supplier sites will be required. Travel is estimated at 70%
